Sierra Sunrise Turns 50!
(Reno, NV) The Sierra Sunrise club of Toastmasters International, a public speaking training organization, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the National Automobile Museum. The entire community is invited to share in the celebration and network with members of more then 25 Toastmasters clubs located in Greater Reno, Carson City /Tahoe.
The Golden Jubilee event will feature humorous speeches, a delicious appetizer menu, provided by the locally renowned Silver Peek Restaurant, and a cash bar. Guests will also have full access to all of the museum exhibits. In attendance will be members and alumni of the Sierra Sunrise club, representatives from other Toastmasters Chapters, local dignitaries and a broad mix of community members who will be toasting the evening as we all look forward to a bright future.
Sierra Sunrise was founded February 18, 1961, and is the oldest Toastmasters club in Reno. Since its inception the group has helped numerous individuals achieve success. According to chapter President Silvio Piergrossi .The clubs longevity is attributed to our ability to adapt to change while focusing on Toastmasters. core objective of providing a positive learning environment for people interested in overcoming the very common fear of public speaking. Among the Clubs alumni are members of organizations in the private and public sector who have applied the communication and leadership skills developed as a result of their experience in Toastmasters.
The National Automobile Museum is located at 10 South Lake Street at the corner of Mill and Lake Street in downtown Reno. In keeping with the 50th Anniversary theme, guests will be transported back into the sights and sounds of the past. The Museum, ranked a .Top Ten. automobile museum in the nation, features an array of more than 200 exceptional automobiles, period street settings, historical timelines, vintage clothing displays and more.
Come join us and experience first hand the camaraderie of Toastmasters. It.s a great source of support and a way to step out of one.s spear of influence to broaden your perspective.

We celebrated our 49th anniversary with cake and cookies. What a great way to start the day off! Skip Hansen took the table topics title, and Harry Beaupre took the Best Speaker. The rubber dinosaur for the most AHs was awared to Dean Miller

Next Thursday marks the 49th anniversary of the official charter of Sierra Sunrise Toastmasters. In honor of that holiday, we will be having a founder's day celebration. Invite previous members to show our appreciation for their contribution to Sierra Sunrise!

This week was the annual Evaluator's contest. We had 7 members evaluating a special guest speaker and it was a close race. In the end, Dan Drinan was awarded first place and will represent Sierra Sunrise in the next round of competition. Carole Slater placed second and will represent our club if Dan cannot. Overall it was a great contest!
